The cultural life of Lower Austria
The capital of Lower Austria is Sankt Pölten, part of which was built on the site of the ancient Roman city of Aelium Cetium in the 2nd and the 4th centuries, derives its name from Hippolytus of Rome. The town is the home of the Lower Austrian State Theatre as well as a variety of historical museums and a popular nudist beach on the Ratzersdorf Lake.
