Fully renovated, cosy timber-framed house for eight guests

The listed timber-framed house from the year 1602 is situated in Behringen, near the Wartburg. Behringen is a village with 1600 inhabitants, which was first documented in the 9th century. With a renovated castle, an old village centre with a little stream flowing through it, a church and now many renovated houses, today Behringen is a vibrant little village with new builds since 1990. The house is right in the old village centre, near the castle and the church. A little stream flows in front of the site and you cross a bridge to get to it.

Your 120m² holiday house is a former village inn The listed house was comprehensively renovated from 2009 to 2011 and then refurbished and newly furnished in early 2018 and now presents itself as a contemporary gem with two living rooms (one with a fireplace stove and a playing corner for kids), a kitchen-diner from 2018 with a big old dining table, four bedrooms (three with double beds, one with a bunk bed), two bathrooms (one with a shower and one with a bath), and auxiliary rooms.

There is a well-tended 200m² garden inviting you to relax, with a sheltered sitting area with a grill right in front of the house. There are two parking spaces right by the site.

You can find a local Edeka market, a butcher, a bakery, a bank and a pharmacy. Behringen is right by the Hanisch National Park. There is a local tourist informatioin centre for Hainich. The Wartburg as a world cultural heritage site is no doubt the most famous sight in the area. It is 10km to the town Eisenach with the Bachmuseum, Lutherhaus and the largest villa colony in Germany.

Within an hour by car you can get to the following destinations: the Hainich National Park with a treetop trail, orchids, wild cats, seven types of woodpecker and 15 species of bat, as well as 2150 types of beetle! It has 16,000 hectares of deciduous forest, of which 7500 hectares is specially protected as a national park. It is a first-class nature experience. There is the Werretal with old mills, boat hire, hiking paths, castles. The Landgrafen and Drachenschlucht with waymarked and interesting walking paths, always with a view of the Wartburg. The Trusetal waterfall, the two highest mountains of the Thüringer Wald: Beerberg (983m) and Schneekoppe (978 m), the Rhön biosphere reserve, the Thüringer Wald nature reserve, as well as the Kyffhäuser nature reserve with Barbarossa cave and Königspfalz. Towns include Eisenach with the Bachmuseum, Lutherhaus, Nikolaikirche, market square and the old Narrow House just 2.05 metres wide, Gotha the “baroque universe” with Schloss Friedenstein and an animal park, Erfurt the regional capital of Thüringen, Bad Salzungen with thermal baths, the “rose town” Bad Langensalza with various themed gardens, e.g. a Japanese and a magnolia garden, Mühlhausen one of the most beautiful old towns in Thüringen and a 2.8km town wall, not to mention Schmalkalden, Weimar, Arnstadt, Treffurt, Zella-Mehlis with an aquarium and Oberhof, THE winter sports resort in Thüringen with a winter sports hall and the H2Oberhof thermal spa. As for people, there were four greats from Thüringen: Martin Luther the great reformer, Johann Sebastian Bach one of the greatest composers, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and Friedrich Schiller, the great poets and writers. In terms of activities, there are 120 km of signposted hiking paths through the Hainich alone. Falkenstein at 96 metres is the highest free-standing climbing face in Thüringen. There are the Erfurt lakes for swimming, diving, surfing, sailing and fishing. You can cycle along the long-distance cycle trail “Thüronger Städtekette” that connects the most important and beautiful towns in Thüringen (Eisenach, Gotha, Erfurt, Weimar und Jena). The most well-known hiking trail is the 170-km-long Rennsteig. You shouldn’t miss the attraction of the Thüringer bratwurst – a delicious sausage. In the little village Holzhausen there is now the 1st German bratwurst museum. The dumplings are also delicious.

“Very clean and well presented house, really well equipped kitchen although it could benefit from a washing machine in the utility room and lack of any bed linen is difficult for overseas visitors!
Very spacious house, the garden was pretty but small. Overall accomadation was excellent and we would recommend for a family, location is right next to a lovely park and beautiful forest.
This was our first visit to Germany and we found the people very welcoming and we would recommend this region to experience the beautiful landscape.”
